The Godfather part II is an American gangster film, released in 1974, that was a companion piece to the 1972 blockbuster The Godfather, transformed from the 1969 novel by Mario Puzo.

Since its release, the film has got the reputation of being the rare sequel that is equal to the original.

Synopsis of the Story : Godfather

The Godfather II contrasts two stories: Michael Corleone played in the Godfather by Al Pacino in the year after he became head of the Corleone family business. His father, Vito Corleone, was a young man displayed by Robert De Niro.

In the 1950s former storyline, Michael moved the family and his base of operations to Nevada, looking to expand his influence into Las Vegas and Havana.

Further, the other storyline to watch Godfather 2 displays Vito as a first child arriving in New York City in the early 1900s after the local Mafia killed his family in Sicily.

He is introduced to criminal activity as a young man by his friend Clemenza (Bruno Kirby), starting with thievery.

Crime Scene of the Movie

When a neighborhood crime boss demands a cut of Vito’s profits, Vito murders him. Vito gets more power and respect while keeping his devotion to his family.

In the other narrative, Michael declines a request from Frankie Pentangeli to approve a hit in New York City because it would disrupt business with Jewish crime kingpin Hyman Roth. Hence, Michael’s story became one of betrayal, deception, and paranoia.

He is attacked by assassination attempts and government investigations where his wife, Diane Keaton, left him. Even though his brother Fredo is against him, he stops trusting the consigliere, Tom Hagen. Ultimately, Michael is left alone and loses his family and essential humanity.

However, the rise of Vito Corleone became the don of his own crime family and was adapted from the novel The Godfather. But Puzo, co-writer and director Francis Ford Coppola, made the story of Michael’s journey into soullessness for the movie.

Most actors from The Godfather are back in their original roles, such as Talia Shire as Connie Corleone. However, renowned acting teacher Strasberg made his film debut in the movie.

The Godfather part II was the first sequel that won an Academy Award for best picture. Robert De Niro was the second actor who won an Oscar for acting as Don Vito Corleone as he was not present then, so Coppola accepted the award on his behalf.
